( Hindi ) बिपिन लक्ष्मण सिंह रावत  भारत के पहले रक्षा प्रमुख या चीफ ऑफ डिफेंस स्टाफ थे; उन्होंने ने 1 जनवरी 2020 को रक्षा प्रमुख के पद का भार ग्रहण किया। इससे पूर्व वो भारतीय थल सेनाध्यक्ष के पद पर 31 दिसंबर 2016 से 31 दिसंबर 2019 तक पर रह चुके थे।

On 8 December 2021, General Rawat died at the age of 63, in a helicopter crash.

( English ) On 8 December 2021, a total of 10 passengers and 4 crew members including General Rawat, his wife and other members of his personal staff were on board the Mil Mi-17 helicopter of the Indian Air Force which flew from Suluru Air Force Airport to Defense Services Staff College, Wellington. was going where General Rawat was to deliver a lecture. The accident took place near a residential colony of a private tea garden located in Bandishola gram panchayat in Coonoor taluk of Nilgiri district, around 12:10 pm local time. The accident site was about 10 km from the place where the helicopter was to land. The deaths of General Rawat - and 11 others including his wife - were later confirmed by the Indian Air Force. Indian Air Force Group Captain Varun Singh was the only survivor of the accident. Rawat was 63 years old at the time of his death.

( Hindi )  8 दिसम्बर 2021 को, जनरल रावत, उनकी पत्नी और उनके निजी स्टाफ़ के अन्य सदस्यों समेत कुल 10 यात्री और चालक दल के 4 सदस्य भारतीय वायुसेना के मिल एमआई-17 हैलिकॉप्टर पर सवार थे जो सुलुरु वायुसेना हवाई अड्डे से वेलिंगटन स्थित रक्षा सेवा स्टाफ़ कॉलेज जा रहा था जहाँ जनरल रावत को व्याख्यान देना था। स्थानीय समय अनुसार अपराह्न 12:10 बजे के आसपास, नीलगिरि जिले के कुन्नूर तालुके के बांदीशोला ग्राम पंचायत में स्थित एक निजी चाय बागान की आवासीय कॉलोनी के समीप दुर्घटनाग्रस्त हो गया। दुर्घटना का स्थान उस जगह से लगभग 10किलोमीटर की दूरी पर था जहाँ हेलिकॉप्टर को उतरना था। जनरल रावत – और उनकी पत्नी समेत अन्य 11 – के निधन की पुष्टि बाद में भारतीय वायुसेना द्वारा की गयी। भारतीय वायुसेना के ग्रुप कैप्टन वरुण सिंह इस दुर्घटना में एकमात्र जीवित बचने वाले व्यक्ति थे। निधन के समय रावत की उम्र 63 वर्ष थी।
